Mulla Nusruddin
Mulla Nusruddin heard about a grand dinner being hosted by the new Emir in his palace. He turned up there in his usual shabby clothes. The guards did not who he was and would not let him in.
Mulla came home, put on his best dress and turban, and went back to the palace. This time, the guards welcomed him with honours. Trumpets were sounded. The Emir himself came to greet him and seated him at the main table. Exotic food was laid out on the table for the special guests.
Mulla sat down and immediately took some of the food and rubbed it on his beautiful cloak and turban. The Emir was perplexed. “Your Eminence,” he said to Mulla, “I am curious as to your eating habits, which are new to me.” “Nothing special,” said Nusruddin. “The cloak and turban got me into the palace and also got me the food. Surely they deserve a portion of the food.”
