Mulla Nasruddin
Nowadays, what with the pandemic, climate change, authoritarian rulers and so on, it seems sometimes that the end of the world is coming. Here are two Mulla stories on this topic.
A friend asked Mulla, “Are you not scared of the end time that is coming?” Mulla said, “Which one?” The friend replied, “What do you mean by that? How can there be more than one end time?”
Mulla answered, “There are two: the lesser and greater end. If my wife dies before me, that is the lesser end of the world. When I die, that is the greater end of the world!”
Second story
The second story is about the fat lamb that Mulla had in his house. His friends had their eyes on the lamb and planned a way of consuming it. They told him, “The Imam says that the end of the world is coming on Monday. Since we will all die on that day, why not have a great celebration on Sunday? Let us enjoy a lamb dinner at your house.”
Mulla agreed and the group had a good time drinking and enjoying the lamb dish. It was almost morning when they all fell asleep, stuffed with drink and food. Since it was cold, the gracious host Mulla lighted a bonfire to keep the guests warm.
At day break, Mulla woke them up saying, “Let us watch the ending of the world!” The woke up shivering in the cold because their coats had all been taken away. When they asked Mulla for their coats, he told them, “Don’t worry about them. I figured you won’t need them after the end of the world, so I used them to light the fire!”
